HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) 2016/5/20 – Based o real event, it’s VE day May 8th, 1945, and the future Queen of England and her sister have become lost in the crowd during celebrations that WWII is over, Rather than go home, as they should, they travel around London unescorted as a couple ordinary girls joining in the celebrations.
A Royal Night Out shares the experience of Princess Elizabeth and her sister Princess Margaret as they experience London on their own for the first time. It’s an adventure out among the general populous of London. There is comedy and a little romance for the two royal princesses.
Directed by Julian Jarrold. Young Margaret gets herself into.situations that require some extrication. Reminiscent of Downton Abbey and Roman Holiday.
Princess Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) and her younger sister Princess Margaret (Bel Powley) beg their parents King George VI (Rupert Everett) and Queen Elizabeth (Emily Watson) to let them join in the celebrations outside Buckingham Palace. Their parents give their consent and the two head out incognito, but the night doesn’t turn out the way the girls expect. There is escaping their military escorts, to join the parties and dancing in the streets. When Margret goes missing Elizabeth must find her. She recruits Jack (Jack Reynor) an airman. Jack has no idea that he’s with Princess Elizabeth and Elizabeth has no idea that Jack has gone AWOL from the military. Can Elizabeth find Margaret and can they get back to the Palace without their parents calling out the guards to find them?
