HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) 2017/2/15 – “I love Sadie’s sort of idealism,” says Doubt star Katherine Heigl. “I think that for her to do what she does and to believe in the inherent goodness in people and their inherent innocence, she sort of has to be a bit of an idealist. I think that can also get her into trouble. I really love that about her and I really find it inspiring.”
In Doubt Katherine Heigl is attorney Sadie Ellis. She works at a boutique firm when she starts to fall in love with the client of her murder case. She hides her feelings from everyone, including her close friends.
Steven Pasquale is Billy Brennan, Sadie’s client accused of murdering his girlfriend 24 years ago. He also begins having feelings for Sadie, while he fights to convince the world of his innocence.
Laverne Cox is Cameron Wirth, a transgender Ivy League graduate who fights passionately for her clients because she’s experienced injustice firsthand. Also in the firm works Tiffany Simon, a second-year associate who is quickly learning the ropes from Wirth; and Nick, a former felon who earned his degree while serving time.
“I always wanted to be an actor,” says Cox. “A lot of women like me, a lot of black transgender woman, we don’t get to live our dreams. Being out, and proud, and being who I am, and getting to live my dreams I hope it gives other people hope that they can as well. I’ve wanted to play an attorney forever, my brother thinks I should be a lawyer and then I thought I should even go to law school, and I’m like, actually playing a lawyer on TV will be so much better.”
Elliott Gould is legal lion and legend, Isaiah Roth. His opinion matters to everyone, especially to Sadie. Her decision to become involved with her client could put her career, as well as her happiness, at risk if Billy is found guilty. She needs to work even harder to prove reasonable doubt, even if she has some herself.
