HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) 4/25/16 – “I was shocked and heartbroken when CBS canceled Mike and Molly,” says Mike and Molly star Melissa McCarthy. “I would have shot this show for fifty more years. I’ll miss my second family.”
After tonight’s episode CBS will air back-to-back episodes every Monday, starting May 2nd. The series finale is on Monday, May 16, 2016.
New CBS president Glenn Geller confirmed the decision to cancel the show in January at Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour in Pasadena, California. However, Rondi Reed, who has the role Mike’s mother Peggy, had revealed in December that season six would be their last.
“Before you hear it elsewhere, and some already have, this is the final and 6th Season of Mike and Molly on CBS,” said star Rondi Reed. “It is also a shortened season, thirteen episodes…after the announced full renewal of 22 episodes back in March by the network. We are done taping as of January 27th, 2016.”
In a March 2015 announcement, Mike and Molly was renewed early for their 6th season. Melissa McCarthy won an Emmy as lead actress in a comedy in 2011. Mike and Molly was nominated for People’s choice awards and Emmy Awards.
Fans are disappointed about the cancellation. Mike and Molly will be missed.
