Elena of Avalor, Latin Disney Princess to the Rescue

Latin Disney princess Aimee Carrero gets her own series, premiere of animated Elena of Avalor and music EP on Friday, July 22nd, 2016

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) 2016/7/21 – “It means the world to me,” says star Aimee Carrero, the voice of Elena of Avalor. “People have been waiting a long time for this, myself included…. How I feel about Elena being pan-Latin? I think it’s a good thing because it doesn’t exclude anybody. I know as a Latina. I’m Dominican, Puerto Rican.”

Two consecutive episodes of Elena of Avalor will be shown during the premiere. At the same time, Walt Disney Records is releasing a seven-track EP, including Elena’s anthem, My Time.

“Disney has the stories and characters that kids and families want, including an inspiring new story and character in Elena of Avalor,” says Disney Channels Worldwide SVP of programming and content strategy Paul DeBenedittis. “This programming event continues our commitment to serve our viewers.”

Elena of Avalor is set in an enchanted fairy tale land of Avalor. Elena, a teenage princess, must save her kingdom from an evil sorceress. Still learning to rule, Elena has to master patience and compassion.

Incorporated within the stories are Latin traditions,. Folklore, magic, mythology and original songs for the each episode. Presented on Disney Channel and Disney Junior simultaneously with limited interruptions and special previews of upcoming Disney feature films.

Princess Elena will be at Walt Disney World Resort this summer and at Disneyland Resort in the fall. Disney Publishing is offering e-book, dolls, accessories, apparel from Disney Store. Licensees including Hasbro, Jakks Pacific, Franco Manufacturing and Children’s Apparel Network. Items to be available later this month. Disney Studios will release a compilation DVD later this year.

Latin Grammy Award winner Gaby Moreno performs the series’ theme song and will also voice a guest role.

The first episode of Elena of Avalor is available on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior app now, Also Disney Channel VOD platforms and Disney Channel YouTube. Following its U.S. debut, the series will roll out in 163 countries on Disney Channels and Disney Junior.

Sneak peaks:

  • Walt Disney Animation Studios’ animated feature Frozen (5:15 p.m.). This will lead in to the Elena of Avalor” premiere (7:00 p.m.). Both timeslots will include a first look at the upcoming animated short-form series LEGO Frozen Northern Lights featuring Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven on an epic adventure to restore the glimmer of the Northern Lights. “Lego Frozen Northern Lights” premieres in November on Disney Channel.
  • Disney Channel’s exclusive first look at a scene from the upcoming Disney feature film “Pete’s Dragon,” opening in theatres August 12.
  • The exclusive television premiere of a captivating teaser trailer for the upcoming Disney film “Beauty and the Beast” with comments from its star, Emma Watson. The film opens March 17, 2017.
  • A teaser trailer for “Descendants 2,” the sequel to the hit Disney Channel Original Movie set to premiere in summer 2017.
