Hollywood, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) 2014/1/15 – “The first thing comes to mind is, boy, wouldn’t they benefit from a great musical education,” says FOX American Idol star Harry Connick Jr. during 2014 winter TCA. “We all talk about how great it would be, say, to have music education in schools. Yet a lot of people don’t take advantage of the opportunities of getting education.”

“It’s definitely different because with Steven and Randy it was one thing, and with Harry and Keith, it’s another,” says Idol star Jennifer Lopez. “But to be honest, there is a similarity, and the similarity is that I loved coming to work every day, which is why I’m back. I really enjoy this show as a fan, and I fell even more in love with it being involved with the production of the show. And this season is no different in that I am lucky enough to sit between two people who I respect and have a good time with, and we all love music. We love the journey, and we’re all fans of American Idol, and I think that’s what’s going to make it sparkly and fresh and new again.”

American Idol is back for its 13th season on January 15th, 2014, at 8pm.. Jennifer Lopez has come back to the judging table she was on in season 10 and 11. this is Keith Urban second year in a row as a judge Joining them is Harry Connick Jr. who’s no stranger to the show. Connick Jr. was a coach in on Idol in the past. He brings a different perspective to the show from Lopez and Urban.

Connick Jr. is not happy that some contestants feel they don’t need to study music to be a singer. “Somehow in music, it’s okay not to know anything about your craft,” says Connick Jr. “I profoundly disagree with that, and I will tell every kid that comes in, whether they’re educated or not, you need to work on your craft. It has nothing to do with passion. My definition of passion is somebody who learns everything they can about what they love. So we’ve seen some kids, I mean, they don’t know what a major scale is. I don’t really care about that, but I would think at the end of this process, hopefully they would start figuring out: Let me learn as much as I can.”

“This season is this three, and the synergy that I found with these guys the very first night,” says American Idol star Keith Urban. “We sat down and had dinner and it was just fluid, and I think we just have such a mutual respect for these guys and girls standing in front of us and singing. It’s a really daunting thing. I mean, I never forget that. You know, they’ve got no microphone, no audience, no band, no music, nothing, and they stand in front of us and sing. And all three of us have so much respect for that. So, you know, if there’s a fluidity about the way we do what we do, it’s because we all have a similar heart.”

Although it’s really about the contestants, the judges are key to the popularity of Idol. How will the audience at home react to the new mix of judges? Lopez is pop with Latin flair. Keith Urban is country. Connick Jr. is jazz singer, conductor, pianist, actor, and composer. While many contestant’s are unaware who he is, Connick Jr. has sold over 28 million albums worldwide.

Randy Jackson is gone as a judge, but has taken the role of house mentor, replacing Interscope Records founder Jimmy Iovine. The ever charming Ryan Seacrest is back as host.
