HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) 2016/1/31 – “I feel like if your on stage performing that live audience helps so much we can be in rehearsal and on stage and give 100 percent,” says Grease:Live star Julianne Hough. “When there’s an audience there…there is like this reserve tank to give an extra little ump that’s where magic happens. And that’s why I think were so excited. We have the live audience. I’m excited for the people to watch at home too because that’s how were creating it. For television. When people introducing their kid for the first time to Grease their going to feel really involved as well. Their going to be singing along and dancing. I hope.”
Breaking news: Real life heartbreak for Vanessa Hudgens. Her father passed away last night from stage 4 cancer. She shared the news on Twitter this morning. Hudgens will perform in tonight’s live show in his honor. Love and strength to Vanessa her mother Gina her sister Stella, and their mom Gina.
The show has been in rehearsal since November 2015. There will be songs from the stage version that will be new to some Grease fans and they’ve planned to take some cinematic cues from the film too.
This is the first live TV musical for Fox. NBC live musicals like The Wiz have been a big hit, and Fox is out to top them. Fox is using multiple stages and a large open area at Warner Brothers studio for the finale at the carnival, come rain or shine. And, it is raining now, hours before the show. They have a contingency plan, that it may be in tents. There is a live audience on the sets. The cast will be moved between stages using golf carts.When the cast is on another set, the live audience will watch on large screens. Some of the audience will be moving from set to set, and go backstage too.
Sandy (Julianne Hough: Safe Haven, Rock of Ages) and Danny (Aaron Tveit Graceland, Les Miserables) has a summer that is ending when they have to head back to their different schools. Unexpectedly, Sandy is transferred to Rydell High, Danny’s high school. Will Danny stay cool and maintain his bad-boy persona in the T-Birds? Sandy joins the Pink Ladies. Will she still be the good girl she’s always been? Will they stay the same or change to fit the other’s expectations?

Executive producer Marc Platt (Wicked, Into the Woods), Tony Award-nominated director Thomas Kail (Hamilton, In the Heights) is the director overseeing stage direction. Alex Rudzinski (Dancing with the Stars) is the live television director. Broadway writers Robert Cary (Anything but Love, Ira & Abby) and Jonathan Tolins (Buyer & Cellar, The Last Sunday in June) wrote the Live television adaptation.
