HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) 5/3/2016 – “I had a working knowledge of Houdini as I came into this,” says Houdini & Doyle star Michael Weston. “But when I really got into it where this guy lives in our history. He was an immigrant who pulled himself up by the boot straps from poverty and became he sort of actualized the America dream.”
This new mystery adventure drama follows Harry Houdini (Michael Weston, House, Six Feet Under), famous escape artist, magician and he loved to debunk paranormal occurrences and Arthur Conan Doyle (Stephen Mangan, Episodes), the author of the Sherlock Holmes novels. They work with Scotland Yard to solve unsolved crimes that seem to have supernatural elements. Constable Adelaide Stratton (Rebecca Liddiard, Man Seeking Woman), the first female constable on the London Metro Police force is working with them.
Houdini the American skeptic, Doyle the believer, and Stratton the practical are challenged by the cases and their different view points. Stratton usually the peace maker between the two strong opinioned men. The murders are shrouded by vampires, ghosts, monsters and poltergeists, or are they just a way to hide the murderer. Early on Houdini and Dolye were great friends until Houdini denounced Doyle’s wife.
The 10-episode drama was inspired by true events and is commissioned straight to series for ITV Encore in the U.K., and by Global in Canada, and licensed in the U.S. on FOX. Stephen Hopkins (24, Californication) directed the pilot.
Executive-produced by David Shore. Written and co-created by his longtime collaborator David Hoselton and Canadian screenwriter David Titcher. Hoselton and Titcher are also executive producers.
