HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) 2016/10/20 – “I personally would like to invite you to join us like-minded group of weirdos this October, as we do the Time Warp again with the reimagining of the iconic phenomenon that I originally starred in more than 40 years ago,” says Rocky Horror Picture Show star Tim Curry.
“I’m honored to have been given the opportunity to return and be a part of this new production, alongside an incredible group of talented individuals, including Laverne Cox, Victoria Justice, Ryan McCartan, Reeve Carney, Christina Milian, Annaleigh Ashford, Adam Lambert, Staz Nair, Ben Vereen and Ivy Levan,” says Curry. “It’s an experience you won’t want to miss, and for you “virgins” out there, this is your chance to see why this cult classic is one of the most popular films of all time and still plays in movie theaters around the world.”
Curry played the role of Frank-N-Furter on stage and in the iconic feature film. For the FOX TV production he takes the role of Narrator. Curry had a stroke in 2012 and has been confined to a wheelchair ever since. The iconic movie gained a cult following with audience participation during the late night showings. If you’re over the age of 35, you’ve probably been to one of these shows, a rite of passage.
“I discovered Rocky Horror Picture Show when I was in college,” says star Laverne Cox. “I had a shaved head and I wore false eyelashes to ballet class every day. And here I was, I saw this movie and this character called Dr. Frank-N-Furter and I saw myself. And It was so unbelievably transformative for me. Tim Curry’s performance is so iconic. We’re really trying to find our own spin on everything. I think it’s really exciting our cast is so diverse. There’s a reverence that everyone who’s involved with this project has for the original.”
“We’re not competing with the movie,” says director and executive producer Kenny Ortega. “If we wanted to compete with the movie we’d make a movie for the big screen. This is a celebration. A total tribute and a thank you that’s what were’ doing here.”
“Kenny Ortega has some really imaginative ideas on where we can go with it that we didn’t go the first time,” says executive producer Lou Adler. Adler executive produced the feature film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the longest-running theatrical film in history.
The FOX production is a reboot, not a remake. The two-hour musical airs on Thursday, October 20th, 2016, from 8 to 10 PM ET/PT.
Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios, Ode Sounds & Visuals and The Jackal Group. Executive producer Lou Adler (Grammy Award winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee), Gail Berman (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, former President of Fox Broadcasting Company) and Kenny Ortega (Emmy Award-winning director and choreographer of High School Musical and Descendants,). Based upon the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O’Brien with lyrics and music by Richard O’Brien.
