HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) 2017/2/21 – “It helps that I went through the same thing, basically that these kids are going through,” says The Pop Game mentor and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. “They have so much passion and they’re excited. I remember that excitement and also the feeling of the unknown. My prayer for them is that they continue to have that wonderment and that they’re able to exude that passion and fire.”
“Being a mentor is what’s missing in music,” says The Pop Game star Timbaland. “It’s really artist development, and this is part of owning a record label. Now, everything is on the phone and everything is visual so I think this is the new way of showcasing artists. If I show you how the process is done, I think you’ll respect it more.”
In The Pop Game, music industry icon Timbaland works with five aspiring young vocal artists, all vying to be the next big thing on the charts. Timbaland’s team of writers, producers, and top celebrity guest artists include JoJo, Macy Gray, Nelly Furtado and Jordin Sparks. Together they assist the kids and their manager parents in several challenges designed to teach and test the skills they will need to grace some of the world’s biggest stages.
Timbaland has created career-defining hits for artists such as Aaliyah, Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliott, Destiny’s Child, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, Drake, Katy Perry and Jay-Z, among others. Now he will teach the kids everything from developing a distinct vocal style and image, collaborating with other artists, maximizing vocal talent, handling their paces with rigorous choreography, to take command of an audience. The last artist to stand in the competition walks away with a record contract with Timbaland’s label, Mosely Music Group.
