HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) June 6, 2016 – “You want to live up to what you achieved the first time around,” says UnREAL star Shiri Appleby. In an interview with ZAP2It, Appleby says, “When we made the first season, there were no expectations of us. Nobody paid any attention to us, but I definitely feel the pressure this year … not that it’s coming from anyone other than myself.”
Appleby directs the 6th episode of the current season. UnREAL is a fictitious look at behind-the-scenes plots in the production of the competition dating show Everlasting. Season one faced transgender issues. This season they have their first African-American bachelor.
Series regulars are Shiri Appleby as Rachel and Constance Zimmer Quinn as producers. Quinn took the show over from Craig Bierko, the creator of Everlasting, Chet, he wants his show back, and Quinn isn’t giving it up. Josh Kelly is Jeremy, Everlasting’s director of photography. Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman is Jay, a field producer whose ambitions go beyond the show. Everlasting’s new suitor, Darius Hill, an All-American football star, is played by B.J. Britt.
Honored by the American Film Institute as a Television Program of the Year, UnREAL was nominated for three Critics’ Choice Awards. Constance Zimmer won a Critic’s Choice award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. UnREAL co-created by Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro,
UnREAL broadcasts on Monday nights, beginning June 6th, with ten new episodes. UnREAL fans can binge watch The Faith Diaries, Lifetimes new scripted spinoff series. All ten episodes are online. Written and produced by UnREAL co-creator and executive producer Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, the series follows season one favorite Faith (Breeda Wool), and her girlfriend Amy as they travel to Los Angeles to pursue their Hollywood dreams and learn about their relationship along way.
UnREAL is produced by A+E Studios. Noxon and Shapiro executive produce UnREAL, with Robert M. Sertner, Carol Barbee, Sally DeSipio, Stacy Rukeyser, Peter O’Fallon and Adam Kane. Per the mission of Lifetime’s Broad Focus initiative, this season of UnREAL has four female directors including Shapiro, Appleby in her directorial debut, Janice Cooke and Nzingha Stewart.
