HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Daily Star) 2015/1/24 – “It came to us as a script,” says Crown Media Development VP Elizabeth Yost. “Love by the Book was just a really interesting idea, a book store, a romantic comedy with great chemistry between the characters. I look for those scripts and work with the writers to get them ready for production. I work with the producers as far as casting, as far as getting directors. Hallmark movies are pretty unique. We look for wonderful characters, romance, emotion, art, humor. When it comes to romantic comedy genre, there’s not a lot of ways to tell it. So we’re always looking for some special setting, like in Love by the Book the book store, or some other unique element that takes the standard formula and makes it special. Character, emotion, arc, those are the most important elements.”

David S. Cass, Sr. directs from a script by Jeff Bonnett and Abbey Cleland and Jennifer Notas. James Wilberger is the producer.

Emma (Leah Renee) is a bookstore owner who believes in the fairy tales she read growing up. Emma has an an investor Frank (John Schneider) who believes in her bookstore, and his son Eric (Kristopher Turner) is brought in to make the bookstore profitable.

While Eric and Emma are in the store disusing some changes Landon (Ryan Bittle) comes to the book store looking for a poetry book. Emma helps him and he asks her out. Landon is dashing and romantic, everything that Eric’s not.

Marilyn (Stefanie Powers) works at the bookstore helps Emma. As Emma takes time away from the bookstore to go out with Landon, Eric becomes frustrated that Emma can’t see how shallow Landon is, that he doesn’t really care about her. Emma realizes that she might lose her store unless she makes some major changes. Will she choose her fantasy man or the guy who believes in her and her dreams?
